Junkanoo in the Bahamas
Junkanoo is an exciting celebration held in the Bahamas on December 26, also known as Boxing Day, and on New Year’s Day. The biggest parade is held in Nassau, attended by thousands of festival goers. Tourists and local residents line Bay and Shirley Street shouting, ringing cowbells, and cheering on the floats. Local residents known as "shacks" wear decorative costumes and masks. The most unique floats are rewarded with cash prizes. Bleachers are setup near the parade route to accommodate people in attendance.
