Festival de Merengue in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
Merengue music originated in the Dominican Republic. People visiting the country in late July will no doubt hear this distinct music wherever they travel since the Merengue Festival is held for a few days annually during this time of the year. The nation’s biggest music festival, the Latin Jazz Festival, is held in October. Tourists vacationing near the malecón, the long stretch of land on Santo Domingo’s shore, can walk up and down the street with thousands of local residents and enjoy numerous bands and DJs as they perform.
