El Yunque (Puerto Rico)
The EL Yunque, also known as the Caribbean National Forest, is a 28,000-acre rainforest located on the island of Puerto Rico. Most tourists explore the forest with the aide of a seasoned guide, but many avid outdoors enthusiasts go at it on their own. The forest has 13 maintained hiking trails that weave back and forth throughout the rainforest. The forest offers trails for both the expert and novice hiker. The forest is home to nearly 70 bird species as well as the island’s endangered green parrot. There are 240 tree species as well as hundreds of varieties of ferns, impatiens, and other tropical flora. EL Yanque is truly one of the most unique attractions in the Caribbean.
