Diamond Mineral Falls and Baths (St. Lucia)
In addition to the Drive-In Volcano, St. Lucia is home to another one of our favorite natural attractions in the Caribbean, the Diamond Mineral Falls and Mineral Baths. The Diamond Mineral Falls and Mineral Baths are located in St. Lucia’s Diamond Botanical Gardens. They are fed from underground springs that run over and down a hill to create a magnificent waterfall that sparkles like diamonds. As the water runs over rocks, the waterfall becomes a virtual kaleidoscope of color that changes and evolves throughout the day as the sun moves overhead. In the early 18th century explorers sent samples of the mineral water to France where physicians confirmed the water possessed healing properties. As a result, King Louis XIV of France had physical baths and a large bathhouse constructed around the springs in order to harness its healing properties. The bathhouse was destroyed following the French Revolution, but in the early 19th century a few baths were resorted. Today visitors can immerse themselves in these healing waters, which at 106 degrees Fahrenheit are hotter than a hot tub!
