Crop Over Festival in Barbados
The only thing better than a week long party is a month long party. During July in Barbados, the month long Crop Over is celebrated on the island. This festival began during the late Eighteenth Century following the end of the sugarcane harvest. To celebrate Crop Over, local residents and tourists gather to enjoy calypso music, street fairs, parades, local food, and other celebrations. Calypso bands compete against each other for the highly sought after Pic-Of-De-Crop award. The festival concludes on Kadooment Day, marked with large parades that are only matched by Carnival parades.
